I have been witness to many great things in my life. Kelly was there to witness this one with me. Maude Maggart is an incredible women with a heavenly voice. She did it all. Made me laugh, got me on the verge of sheding a tear and even spoke about racism in the 1920's music and stage industries. Wow. So well educated. She's a big fan of Cole Porter among others. She sang only songs written in the 1920's. She even did a song in french by Josephine Baker. Paris of course was home for black performers who didn't get the wages or respect for their talent in the states. Omg, this night was unbelivable. A voice that goes as high as the highest note on a piano. And speaking of piano's, gotta give it up to her pianist. It was their first performance together and he was amazing as well. Almost towards the end she calls up her mother to do a song. Now I know where she gets it from. Lets not even dwell on the fact that this is Fiona Apple's sister, they sing nothing alike. And I love Fiona's sweet deep soulful voice, but these two women only have blood in common. Well they kinda look a little alike. Oh well.
My first caberet. Not my last though. I was impressed. Music of the 20's! Wow. I mean that's music, that's feeling. It not g-unit or any other bs like that. How could some of the stuff we hear today be called music if real music surround our past. Yeah new stuff is fun, but give the classics a chance. In any genre, any launguage. oh the new vines album drops tomorrow, and the truth is that I want to get that. Did I just contridict myself? Probably, but at least I didn't say N.E.R.D.
That's coming out tomorrow too.
Kelly had been with me for more than a few firsts. My first thai dinner, my first cabaret, my first brunch date (motzart cafe), my first off broadway burlesque musical, my first broadway musical. We can go from Umbrella with merengue and salsa on friday to Danny's Skylight Room for some 1920's cabaret on Monday. And it was my idea. I read the article and I suggested it. (Thank god for Time Out New York) Would other girls in my past be open for a thing like this? Hell no. This girl is real to me. Very. And she tries to pay for everything. Never over orders. Very real. Totally chills. She really rocks on so many levels that its impossible to describe. She amazes me. Wow. Anyway I just gotta keep a straight mind about this. I can be guided by my emotions, but I can't allow them to overwhelm me. Then I would be a lost cause, which I probably am already. Smitten.
