This is the first week in a long time where I am practicing no poetry. No workshops no readings, I'm even doing little to no writing. I'll be back in the mix on Monday but for now I need a little breather. I love it, I really do, its just that I feel like a just need to step back and breathe.
So I only have two days until the Stage Reading. I am nervous. I think that something will go wrong in the middle of the production. I'm just not sure if it has been gone through enough. Its only a stage reading, I hold the script in my hand! There is one line, my first line, that is so so awkward coming out of my mouth. I hate the way its written and I wish I could re-write it. I can't. I tried. The Director isn't having that. It is just a very awkward line and the way it ends makes it almost impossible to convey the thought that it is supposed to express.
Last night I had dinner with great friends at Jasmines, one of my favorite thai places. I love green curry. The coconut milk spices my mouth perfectly, and sooths it before it can become a bother. The perfect combination of spicy and sweet. I love it.
Last Saturday I actually found a bar in Billyburg called MamaJuana which serves MamaJuana. It is crazy I tell you. MamaJuana is a Dominican drink which consists of bark and root completely stuffed into a glass bottle. Then the roots are cured with some booze, honey, wine and sometimes raisins. After a few months, the bottle is drained with bark and root stuck and ready. They you add rum to the bottle. Light rum is key. You keep it in there for about three months to a year, and when it ready, you drink the mother fucker. The drink is stronger, and taste better. It also becomes dark. I love it. I only had this before in my own house. Once the bark and root get used to the process it takes less time to get the alcohol ready. It is lovely and delightful. I love it so so much. And now I found a place in Billyburg that sells it. The Corner of Grand and Leonard.
I Had such a great time on Saturday.
I saw a bit of Billy Collins vs Taylor Mali at the Bowery.
Hung out in Raj's new Apt with the huge great incredible backyard.
Hung out with Rachelita, Nina and co. at a bar with good dance music,
went to MamaJuana were I drank Mamajuana and got praised by all sorts of gringos for my dancing.
Ate Breakfast at Kellogs Diner in BillyBurg,
Crashed at a fab Prospect heights Brownstone apartment that belongs to my great friends Abby and Laura.
Then On Sunday I got to go to brunch at Shane's Cafe where I ran into Leslie, and Salome. Talk about a great weekend.
What Can I say, Life is pretty damn good, ini't
