I wrote this right before my feature.
So finally, after knowing since July that this day would come it has
arrived. My Feature at Acentos. I've been working for this for 2 and a
half years. Ever since I got up on a mic for the first time. The first
time I ever got the nerve to go up to a MIC and read what I thought was
poetry. All at Acentos. My first poetry family. The people that have
been with me since day one, pushing me along, acting as older siblings
at times. My friends. I am so honered that they feel that my poetry is
up to par. This has given me a confidence that I didn't have before. I
am reading on a stage shared by Miguel Algarin, Martin Espada, and many
other poets that I admire so so much. What can I say? I was nervous
for the longest. Today there is a calm that is amazing. I know that
all is going to be well. I know my work is good. I trust in it. I'll
let you all know how it goes. Love you all.
